Started by two guys who like killing ducks and wanted more tall grass for the ducks to hide in, they started a rice company. No matter the muderous reason, they started planting, harvesting, milling and packaging some of the best heirloom rice the colonies have ever seen. And, yes, Carolina Gold rice is said to be traced back to the late 1680's.
